ABOUT US

As two Chapel Hill-based student organizations (Alpha Epsilon Delta & Alpha Phi Omega), we wanted to make an impact on the community we now call home as Tar Heels . Race Against Racism will benefit The Marian Cheek Jackson Center, whose mission is to honor, renew, and build community in the historic Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhoods in Chapel Hill, NC.

The Jackson Center is a hub of creative action dedicated to preserving the future of historically Black neighborhoods in Chapel Hill, NC.  Located in the heart of the Northside community, Center staff work in collaboration with Northside neighbors and friends to respect and to serve histories that, even as they are told, make new history out of Emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, civil rights struggle, and desegregation. Today Northside and Pine Knolls are among the most racially, ethnically, and economically diverse neighborhoods in the region.

The Jackson Center has four main programs: a housing justice initiative, Heavenly Justice Food Ministry, civil rights and local history education, and celebration and connection, which includes events such as the Northside Festival, Porch Revival Tour, and Good Neighbor Cookout.
